Electric motorcycles are available in Australia, but finding somewhere to actually see one in person can still take a little more planning than visiting a traditional motorcycle dealership.

Dedicated electric motorcycle showrooms remain relatively limited. Two places where riders can currently explore electric motorcycles in person are Melbourne and the Gold Coast, while individual motorcycle dealers may occasionally carry electric models from larger manufacturers.

If you’re considering buying an electric motorcycle, visiting a showroom or booking a test ride is one of the best ways to understand whether electric riding is right for you.

Where Can You See Electric Motorcycles in Australia?

One of Australia’s dedicated electric motorcycle destinations is the Savic Motorcycles showroom and headquarters in West Melbourne, Victoria.

Located at 19 Stanley Street, West Melbourne, the showroom gives visitors the opportunity to see the Australian-designed C-Series in person, talk directly with the team behind the motorcycle and explore different customisation options. Savic’s demonstration fleet is also based in Melbourne, with test rides available by booking. The showroom is currently open Monday to Friday, with weekend visits available by appointment.

On the Gold Coast, Australian Electric Motor Co in Burleigh Heads, Queensland specialises in electric motorcycles and offers both on-road and off-road electric models. It also runs demonstrations and events to give riders hands-on experience with electric bikes.

Electric motorcycle availability is changing quickly, so if you’re travelling specifically to see a particular model, it is worth contacting the showroom or dealership beforehand to confirm that the bike is currently on display.

What Should You Look for When Visiting an Electric Motorcycle Showroom?

Seeing an electric motorcycle online is very different from experiencing one in person.

A showroom visit gives you an opportunity to check the things that specifications alone cannot tell you: how substantial the motorcycle feels, whether the riding position suits you, how easily you can move it at low speed and whether the quality of the materials and finish meets your expectations.

If test rides are available, even better. Pay attention to: how the motorcycle delivers its torque, its throttle response, braking and regenerative braking, low-speed handling and how comfortable you feel without a clutch or conventional gearbox.

It is also a good opportunity to ask practical ownership questions about charging, battery warranty, servicing, parts availability, registration, insurance and aftersales support.

For an emerging category such as electric motorcycles, understanding who will support the bike after you purchase it can be just as important as its performance figures.

Are There Government Incentives for Buying Electric Motorcycles in Australia?

Government incentives for electric motorcycles in Australia are currently much more limited than those available for electric cars.

There is no single nationwide purchase rebate specifically for electric motorcycles, and several prominent EV incentives exclude motorcycles. For example, the Federal Government’s electric vehicle Fringe Benefits Tax exemption applies to eligible electric cars but specifically excludes motorcycles and scooters.

State rules also vary. Victoria currently states that its electric vehicle registration discount does not apply to electric motorcycles. NSW’s former $3,000 EV purchase rebate also excluded motorcycles and ended for new purchases from 1 January 2024.

There can still be general motorcycle concessions. For example, NSW [ServiceNSW] is introducing an $80 registration discount for privately registered motorcycles with eligible renewal dates between September 2026 and August 2027, although this is not specific to electric motorcycles.

Because incentives change regularly, check your state or territory government website before purchasing.
