One Lap, Single-Speed Torque, Real-World Roads

Kicking off 2026 in style, the Savic team headed down to Adelaide’s legendary Castambul Motorcycle Collection to host our first interstate test rides on the undulating dips and curls of the Montacute Road.

The panoramic highway provided the perfect setting to put the C-Series’ powerful torque and customisable ride modes to the test on grippy tyres in the hot summer sun. The 8km of stunning switchbacks were the ideal stage to show off what Australia’s premier electric café racer is really capable of.

But first, we took our demo bikes for a scouting run – heading up and down Montacute Road to familiarise ourselves with the route and uncoiling corners. What followed was a memorable afternoon putting the C-Series through its paces and a finely-tuned range of custom modes to find that sweet spot – with everything on the max

After years of riding high-performance bikes up and down Victoria’s best roads – the Great Ocean Road, Reefton Spur, Great Alpine Road, Jamieson Road – you get into a rhythm, finding the best rev range, downshifting at the right moments, leaning into each corner. With the Savic C-Series, you quickly start to feel at home: tucking into corners and powering out, getting ready for the next.

Finding My Sweet Spot on Montacute Road

With the beautifully smooth single-speed drivetrain, you experience those same corners with a new, elevated sense of calm as you blast through each apex. After a few runs, trialling different settings, I found the sweet spot was a slightly smoother throttle, with maximum torque and maximum regenerative braking (or engine braking for old-school combustion riders). 

This let me come in hot, roll off, and let the regen kick in – just like dropping down a gear. The bike scrubbed speed, fed energy back into the battery, and settled perfectly for the turn, ready to be fired out again. 

The beauty of the EV powertrain is that full torque is already there, waiting for you to wrap on the throttle as you exit each bend. With the feedback of the road coming cleanly through the tyres – uninterrupted by engine vibration – I could feel every bump, letting me crack on effortlessly.

Hearing the sound of the motor whine up, and the beauty of my tree-lined surroundings, turned each run into something almost therapeutic as I raced down the hill. It was that rare kind of run where your brain goes quiet and your body follows, knowing precisely what to do.

How 280kg Actually Feels on Montacute

A big concern that most riders have when they first sit on the C-Series is the heft of this 280kg beast. But with the refined in-house suspension, the bike throws itself into each corner feeling nimble and light, yet stays stable and planted as you look through to the next bend.

Across three days of back-to-back test rides, riders kept coming back surprised and impressed by how naturally the C-Series carried itself through Montacute’s twisty curves. For all the undeniable thrills of the torque and acceleration, the sturdy suspension and smooth powertrain ensured that everyone felt totally in control. 

For myself, I’ll remember Montacute as the road where I truly got to enjoy the C-Series for its intended purpose – riding free and easy, on one of Australia’s finest roads.
