Why Tyre Choice Matters More Than You Think
When you’re considering a motorcycle like the C-Series, it’s easy to focus on range, performance, and design, but the way the bike actually feels on the road comes down to a few critical components. Tyres are one of them.
We already know that the right tyre affects grip, but it also influences how confident the bike feels at low speeds, how predictable it is in the wet, how smoothly it responds to torque, and how much trust you build with the bike over time. That’s why we’ve been deliberate about the rubber we put between you and the road.
Pirelli x Savic
When we first approached Pirelli in 2021, we had an early C-Series prototype and a clear vision for how the bike would be used: urban commuting, short everyday trips, and spirited weekend rides. That versatility meant tyre choice would be critical.
As an electric motorcycle, the C-Series places different demands on its tyres compared to traditional petrol bikes. Instant torque off the line requires strong, predictable traction. The additional weight of the battery pack calls for stability, a consistent contact patch, and confidence under braking and cornering. And because the bike is designed to do many different kinds of rides well, the tyre needed to be equally adaptable.
The Pirelli team worked closely with us to understand these usage patterns and performance requirements. Through that collaboration, we landed on the Diablo Rosso™ III, a tyre with the balance, feedback, and real-world versatility needed to enhance the C-Series riding experience.
A Sport Tyre Designed for Real Roads
The Diablo Rosso™ III is the third generation of Pirelli’s Diablo Rosso family, a sport tyre engineered specifically for road use in both dry and wet conditions.

Key features include:
- Technology developed through the World Superbike Championship
- Bi-compound construction with a softer side stripe for grip at lean
- A large footprint for improved adherence and stability
- Consistent handling across a wide range of riding conditions
This makes the DR3 ideal for the C-Series: confidence-inspiring on the daily commute, composed through corners, and predictable when the weather turns.
Grip, Feedback, and Confidence
What riders feel matters just as much as what’s on a spec sheet.
The DR3 is known for its exceptional feedback, the subtle communication between tyre and rider that builds trust. From mid-lean stability to smooth transitions when tipping into a corner, the tyre works with the bike rather than demanding attention from the rider. Importantly, it maintains this feel even under the additional weight and instant torque delivery of an electric motorcycle.
One element of the DR3 that Marcel Bode from Pirelli particularly likes is the iconic pattern design, the flash lightning design on the wheels. The tread pattern of the DR3 is derived from the competition tyre Supercorsa, primarily used by professional racers. The distinctive grooves are an expression of competitiveness but are also highly effective for water dispersal, making the DR3 extremely safe and high-performing tyre in the wet.
As Sam Carter, Product Marketing Manager explains, “the DR3s give you that planted, confident feeling straight away. You’re not thinking about grip, you’re just enjoying the ride. Our riders experience the DR3s everyday as they ride - we even had Davo Johnson put the C-Series to the test at the extreme end, giving the tyres a workout at Adelaide Motorsport Festival - showing the true power of a premium tyre."
That confidence is especially important on a high-torque electric motorcycle, where smooth power delivery and tyre control go hand in hand.

Engineered for Versatility, Not One-Dimensional Riding
The C-Series isn’t built for one narrow use case, and neither is the Diablo Rosso™ III.
Rather than being optimised only for extreme performance or long-distance touring, the DR3 performs consistently across the kinds of riding most owners actually do:
- Urban commuting
- Short-to-medium spirited rides
- Mixed road conditions and variable surfaces

Looking at the compound of the tyre, the rear tyre is bi-compound, with the profile divided into 40-20-40%. The high performance sides are a compound with 100% silica formulation that gives optimal grip in all situations, the remaining 20% in the central section is a compound focused on stability and mileage.
The technology of the DR3 was developed by Pirelli with the WSBK championship in mind, one element in particular being the shape of the contour, ensuring lightning corner entry and race-like handling.
The DR3 supports the way most riders actually ride, delivering sportiness when you want it, without compromising comfort, predictability, or day-to-day usability.
“We chose the DR3 because it delivers consistent performance across real-world riding conditions, not just at the limit” our Savic Motorcycles engineers explain.
A Natural Brand Alignment
There’s also a deeper alignment between Savic and Pirelli.
Pirelli brings more than 150 years of engineering heritage, while continuing to operate with a challenger mindset, pushing innovation, performance, and sustainability forward. The brand has committed to carbon neutrality by 2030 and net zero by 2040, making it a natural partner for a next-generation electric motorcycle manufacturer.
As Marcel A. Bode from Pirelli ANZ puts it, "supporting a local EV manufacturer like Savic with best-in-class tyres elevates the entire riding experience, pairing cutting-edge electric performance with proven, premium rubber."

Tyre Tech for the C-Series
Every C-Series is fitted with Pirelli Diablo Rosso™ III tyres in Melbourne as part of our made-to-order build process.
- Front Tyre: 102/70-17 Pirelli Diablo Rosso
- Rear Tyre: 180/55-17 Pirelli Diablo Rosso III
- Recommended tyre pressure: 38 Front & 42 Rear
To get the best performance and longevity from your tyres, we recommend regular pressure checks, allowing tyres to warm up before spirited riding, and including tyre inspection as part of routine bike care.
Feel the difference for yourself
At Savic Motorcycles, we're riding on the edge of innovation. Our team of engineers and designers have built a new era of performance, combining sleek styling with the latest in EV motorcycle technology. The only way to truly understand the C-Series, is to feel it.
