The SM1 motor has been subject to a thorough cyclical design process to provide high torque across a broad rev-range, and a high level of synergy, balance and integration with the rest of the powertrain.
The liquid-cooled, 8-pole, IPM motor runs on over 100VAC and offers extended high operating speeds, as well as reduced intervals between high levels of discharge.
One of the most complex subsystems of the C-series is our custom-built SM1 powertrain enclosure, which houses a variety of components responsible for control, safety, monitoring and energy storage.
The majority of the prominent ribbed enclosure contains our giant battery pack, which also serves as an important structural member of the C-Series’ chassis.
Our battery pack has gone through a range of design iterations to optimise its form, packaging and cell chemistry. The high-energy-density, NMC lithium-ion prismatic cells provide a nominal capacity of 16.7kWh – rising to 20.1kWh at peak – and a discharge potential exceeding 900A, offering lots of power (even when the battery is near-flat) as well as one of the longest ranges on two wheels.
Our custom pulley-and-belt solution has been engineered with the rear swingarm pivot concentric with the front sprocket, ensuring our state-of-the-art carbon belt maintains a consistently high tension under full acceleration.
When the throttle is ripped open, the rigid Delta Chain Optibelt will deliver full power to the rear wheel without ever stretching.
The anodised rear pulley was designed in house to match the design of the rear wheel – aligning perfectly with its prominent spokes.
